Pet Loss Services

The loss of a pet is often the first experience a child has with death. We recognize the importance of this "teachable moment" by offering pet loss support to families.

Our lending library holds an abundance of pet loss books and videos for families to use when explaining the sensitive topic of death to their children. We will sit with families and explain the most important concepts and vocabulary when talking to children about the death of their pet. We believe in the power of education and the opportunity to support a child by explaining euthanasia in terms the child can understand. We have written a program of support, "Barkley's Gone," that we share in the elementary school classroom to introduce the concepts of proactive grief education, as well as a professional training titled, "My Fish Is Floating." Whether in a school, in our center, or over the phone, Olivia's House values opportunities for teachable moments!
